Minnesota DNR Shuns My Media Access Request

Several months back I mailed a handwritten note to the Minnesota DNR’s Chris Niskanen, Communications Director, Office of Communication and Outreach requesting to be included in these annual roundtable meetings. Well, you probably guessed it…Niskanen took NO ACTION on my request.

Minnesota Puts Its Chronic Wasting Disease Response Plan Into Action

Landowners who obtain shooting permits from the DNR will be authorized to take deer in a portion of southeastern Minnesota within roughly 10 miles of where a CWD positive wild deer was found, as part of the agency’s efforts to sample wild deer in the Pine Island area for CWD.

How Come There’s Not An App For That?

Why doesn’t more state game and fish departments put their rule books for hunting and fishing laws into the form of a smart phone app? It makes just too much sense. Frankly, I carry my phone with me almost at all times. I would love to have ready access to the information it contains—if for no other reason than to verify what I already believe the rules to be.

An app could also enable a hunter to put in a key word and quickly find the section that pertains to the issue in question. Honestly, there are a multitude of reasons it just makes sense for a hunting and fishing rules app.
